2015 Winter Solstice Report
The Winter Solstice marks the beginning of the winter season in the northern hemisphere. It occurs when the sun enters the astrological sign of Capricorn, on the 21st or 22nd of December. This year the sun moved into Capricorn on the 21st at 11:49, Eastern Standard Time.
We can gain some insight about the kinds of energy we will be working through for the next 3 months by reviewing the planetary positions set into motion on the Winter Solstice.
First, the moment of the ingress into Capricorn was very close to midnight so expect things to take till the last moment available. So it is important to be patient and let things run the course and don't try to push the river. There won't be any short cuts.
Next, we see the Moon in Taurus is in it exaltation, a strong indication of the need for comfort and family. At 17 degrees that position of the moon creates a nice earthy trine with jovial Jupiter at 22Virgo and relentless, transforming Pluto at 14Capricorn. Trines are an indication of smooth flow and in earth signs this may give us a sense of balance with money pressures. So expect slow transformation of things that began in the summer months toward a completion just as we come into the Spring Equinox in March.
Mars in Libra says there are still social issues that need to be addressed and there is motivation for this, but the planet of war is separating from the harsh opposition to Uranus in Aries. Hopefully this will bring about some solutions. These 2 planets are in Mutual Reception while Mars transits Libra so it is all about how one chooses to react to issues. As they separate everyone gets to breathe and refocus on other things.
Saturn at 10Saggitarius moves away from the confusing square with Neptune in Pisces, giving us a chance to evaluate emotional issues that have now become clearer and need healing. Saturn always seeks to create structure and will offer reward for the work done on building new and healthier behavior patterns gained from the awareness of what needed to be changed. All in all, it is kind of a positive break from the high tension of the last year.
The Uranus square with Pluto has dominated the last year with the "change now or die" theme. In the wake of that aspect, we have a wealth of angry hostility and reactive behavior that lends itself to fear and frustration. We all need a bit of a rest to resolve the things we find problematic and to release the things we no longer need to feel safe. It's time to come out the other side of all of the pain, trauma, and confusion and redirect ourselves with the insight we have gained. It is time to start again with less baggage and more faith in our abilities to adapt and heal. So give yourself a pat on the back for surviving and rest while you can.
